Portable Interpreting Systems for Simultaneous Translations
A lightweight solution for on-the-go meetings
Mobility. If mobility is a priority, consider interpreting through portable interpreting systems (also known as tour guide systems, commonly used during museum visits). These systems are portable devices that allow translation for individual listeners. They consist of a headset and receiver that picks up the translation signal, along with a microphone for the interpreters.
Accessibility. Portable interpreting systems are convenient and easy to use, making them ideal for smaller business meetings, study visits, or interpreting during bus tours or on the move. They allow each participant to receive the translation at their own pace without disturbing others. They are more mobile and flexible than booths, making them suitable for smaller groups or events where interpretation is conducted in different languages simultaneously.
Sound quality in simultaneous interpretation. It’s important to understand that with portable interpreting systems, the input and output signal quality is beyond our control. These systems do not include the participation of a sound engineer. If any other equipment interferes with the signal, interpreters won’t be able to address the issue. Portable systems are effective for small meetings in conference rooms where listeners and interpreters remain in contact throughout the event.
Space for interpreters. Remember that interpreters still need a space (a table and two chairs), and speaking simultaneously with speakers can be distracting and tiring for participants. Also, interpreters cannot be seated too far away as they need to hear the speakers perfectly.
